Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms

Untreated thoracic aortic aneurysms are likely to rupture. This can cause death within minutes.  Fortunately, this type of aneurysm can be treated if detected in time.

Until recently, the only treatment available to repair thoracic aortic aneurysms was traditional open surgical repair.  We are pleased to announce that the GORE TAG® Thoracic Endoprosthesis offers a less invasive method for treating this potentially deadly disease.

Traditional open surgery involves a large chest incision and prolonged aortic clamping. This minimally invasive alternative requires just a small incision near the groin. The endoprosthesis is then advanced to the appropriate location and deployed to isolate the aneurysm.  The stent-graft lines the walls of the aorta and isolates the aneurysm from its blood supply.

In clinical trials comparing the GORE TAG Thoracic Endoprosthesis to open surgical repair, patients who received the Gore device experienced:

-                       Significantly fewer complications

-                       Significantly less procedural blood loss

-                       Shorter hospital stays

-                       A faster return to normal activity

-                       In addition, the operative mortality rate associated with endovascular repair was one-sixth the operative mortality rate associated with open surgery (1% vs. 6%).

Please feel free to call us if you have questions or would like to talk further about the benefits of the breakthrough GORE TAG Thoracic Endoprosthesis.
