Discovering His Life’s Work

Throughout his education, Dr. Allmon discovered just how much he enjoyed the life sciences. This coupled with his natural ability to work well one-on-one with people and his desire to help others, led him to pursue a career in medicine. Today, being a doctor defines not only his career but also his life. It’s an integral part of who he is, and he loves both the medical and human side of what he does.

During Dr. Allmon’s third year of medical school at Georgetown University, he gravitated toward surgery. He enjoyed the challenge, liked to work with his hands, and loved that the surgeons were always the first to show up at the hospital in the morning and the last ones to leave. He thrived on precision, efficiency, and hard work. He still does. And, he chose vascular surgery because it has evolved so dramatically over the past few decades and because it’s a specialty that can really impact people dramatically, improving their quality of life.

His Approach to Medicine

“Every decision I make is calculated. That’s simply the way I work,” said Dr. Allmon.

Dr. Allmon sets the bar when it comes to individualized, deliberate care for patients facing vascular disease. He sees every patient for who they are, and each is special to him. He spends a tremendous amount of time with patients, educating them, treating them, and caring for them. Dr. Allmon dismisses the notion that you can spend too much time with a patient, whether it’s visiting a patient in the wee hours of the morning during hospital rounds, consulting with a patient newly diagnosed with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), or swinging by the recovery room to check on a patient waking up from bypass surgery.

“Every person is different,” said Dr. Allmon. “And, they are all special to me.”

Dr. Allmon’s due diligence with patients carries over into the scientific side of his work. He is unbelievably detail oriented. Some would say he is obsessed. This is because, to him, mediocrity is never acceptable. He strives for perfection in everything he does.

Dr. Allmon practices medicine in a proactive manner. He is always thinking about the next step, how one decision he makes now will play out down the road, and what’s going to happen next. This strategic approach is partly his nature but mostly because he knows this integrated approach leads to optimal outcomes for patients.

 Education and Training Matter

Dr Jon Christian Allmon is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, and is currently a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon in Pensacola, Florida. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Southern California where he graduated Magna cum Laude with a degree in Neurobiology. He then went on to receive his medical degree form Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C..

Dr Allmon completed his General Surgery training at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri.

“At the end of the day, I am not crunching numbers,” said Dr. Allmon. “What I do is about people.”

Dr Allmon is board certified in both General and Vascular Surgery. His interest include both endovascular {minimally invasive}, as well as conventional vascular surgical procedures. He has received additional certification in Hyperbaric medicine and is an experienced wound care specialist.
